Care Guide
Caring for your Bagmark.
"A well-cared for bag carries better. These are the things worth knowing."
Every Bagmark bag is made to last. Not for one season — for years of carrying, reading, travelling, and living. The pebbled vegan leather is chosen for its durability and the way it improves with use. But like anything made well, it rewards a little attention.
This guide tells you everything you need to know to keep your bag looking its best — for as long as you carry it.
The basics.
Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth after use. This removes surface dust and everyday marks before they settle into the leather.
Avoid overfilling your bag. Pebbled vegan leather holds its shape well — but consistently overpacking will stress the seams and distort the structure over time.
Empty your bag regularly. Keys, pens, and sharp objects left loose in the main compartment can scratch the interior lining. A small pouch for these items keeps the inside clean and protected.
When it needs a proper clean.
For surface marks and everyday dirt — dampen a soft cloth, not soaking, just slightly moist, and wipe gently in the direction of the leather grain. Allow to air dry naturally at room temperature. Do not rub aggressively or use a rough cloth.
For stubborn marks — apply a small amount of mild soap to a damp cloth. Wipe the affected area gently, then wipe again with a clean damp cloth to remove any soap residue. Allow to dry naturally.
For the interior lining — turn the lining out if possible. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth and mild soap. For pen marks on the lining, a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad can help — test on a hidden area first.
Never use bleach, harsh chemical cleaners, acetone, or nail polish remover on your bag. Do not soak the leather in water, machine wash, tumble dry, or use direct heat from a hairdryer or radiator to speed up drying.
The gold hardware.
The gold-toned hardware — zipper pulls, D-rings, clasp rings, and adjusters — is finished to resist tarnishing under normal use.
Wipe hardware occasionally with a dry soft cloth to remove fingerprints and surface oils.
Avoid contact with perfume, hand cream, or cleaning products directly on the hardware. These can accelerate tarnishing over time.
If the hardware comes into contact with moisture, dry it promptly with a soft cloth rather than leaving it to air dry.
When you're not carrying it.
Store your bag in the Bagmark dust bag provided. This protects the leather from dust, light, and accidental scratches when not in use.
If you are storing the bag for a longer period — stuff the main compartment lightly with tissue paper to help it hold its shape. Do not store in a plastic bag as leather needs to breathe. Keep away from direct sunlight, which can fade the colour gradually over time. Store in a cool, dry place away from bathrooms and heat sources.
Never hang your bag by its strap for long periods. This can stretch the strap and stress the attachment points. Store it laid flat or upright on a shelf.
Caring for your strap.
For a leather strap — wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth and allow to dry naturally. Avoid pulling the strap sharply or stretching it beyond its adjustment range as this can weaken the stitching at the buckle points over time.
For a webbing strap — wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Allow to air dry fully before reattaching. Do not machine wash the webbing strap as this can warp the woven structure.
Store spare straps rolled loosely — not folded sharply — in the dust bag. Sharp folds in leather straps can create permanent creases.
We stand behind what we make.
If your bag develops a fault within the first six months of normal use — a broken zip, a hardware issue, a seam that comes undone — contact us at hello@thebagmark.com with your order number and a photograph.
We will assess the issue and, where the fault is with the product rather than wear and tear, we will arrange a repair, replacement, or refund in line with our returns policy.
We want your Bagmark to last. If something isn't right, tell us.
"Carry it everywhere. Look after it a little. It will last you a long time."
